Food and water are vital to our existence: if ever there was a commodity with a strong supply/demand argument, this is it. Investing in global economic development directly related to elements that sustain the world’s growing population is a portfolio-strengthening move. Water is abundant on earth, but much of it is saltwater, frozen or located underground. The remaining, drinkable surface water is a finite and precious resource. With the increased incidence of drought and with a quarter of the world’s population heading towards a water crisis, water management is an issue that can’t be ignored. The world’s population is growing and is expected to reach close to 10 billion by 2050. To support the demand for food and water, innovation will be required. Many countries are looking at smart ways of tackling the complex issues involved in meeting the demand for food and the responsible management of water systems.
